”Grace Isn’t Just for Emergencies”
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16)
I used to think of “time of need” being a crisis—or at least after all my own resources and abilities had run out. How ridiculous is that? One morning, the Holy Spirit said (with a bit of a smile I suspect), “Why do you think of Hebrews 4:16 only as a heavenly 911 emergency line?” I realized that’s exactly what I did! I wanted to be a responsible Christian, but this wasn’t the relational response God desired most. His joy is to see us so assured, so confident that we’re loved and special to Him that we know He’s always going to be glad we’re there, no matter what. That was the day that “time of need” changed for me. I realized that every day has a “time of need” (usually more than one). Then, it occurred to me: What if I began every day by thanking God and receiving help, mercy, and grace for what the day holds ahead of time? I may not know where it will be needed, but He does. So if, like me, there’s any cloud of shame for you around your struggles, consider it a signpost to stop, look, and listen. Is there anything you’re trying really hard to do that isn’t God’s heart or ways? Is it time to create a new unforced rhythm of grace where you come with confidence every day to receive mercy and help from a God who is delighted to give it to you? Enjoy those conversations with the Lord, because He deeply enjoys them with you.
This truth is one of the ways we can create an atmosphere of calm and peace, before the storms of life hit. We’ll explore this and many other ways to navigate feeling overwhelmed in our November 9th Workshop. Scroll down for more information!
